Come see me live!

And Roz Chast too!

Hi! It’s been two weeks since my last post. I was all over the tri-state area with my family this whole time. It was fun. We swam in the ocean. We played in the grass. We saw a massive frog. Anyway, a couple of things up front:

1: I think this newsletter will benefit from coming out every other week instead of every week. Someone once told me, “a lot of newsletters start weekly and end weakly.” I don’t want to end weakly because I overextended myself and ran out of ideas. I want to end weakly because I won the lotto, became a billionaire, transformed into the hollow shell of the man I used to be and gave up on all artistic pursuits. Is that so much to ask?

2: I am considering moving my platform to substack. Right now I use beehiive. I have heard substack is better for new folks trying to build a newsletter. I’m still not sure if i want to. Most likely, I’ll be paralyzed by indecision and nothing will change. If I do switch, however, my plan is to bring all of you over. I don’t think anything will look much different to you. Everywhere it says “beehiive” will say “substack” instead. But like I said, I don’t know.

Okay, with that out of the way, lets move on: Come see me talk live! Better yet, some see me and one of the greatest cartoonist of all time, Roz Chast live! On Sept. 11th we will be at the New York Transit Museum talking about cartoons, process and New York City, baby!

I was born on the subway. Not in the literal sense, and not really in the metaphorical sense either. In fact, it’s not really a true statement at all, but I do love the subway. I am a born and bred New Yorker and the subway has been part of my life the whole time. I have so many cartoons about the subway. I think it’s my most-drawn topic. So, with that in mind, I’m going to share a bunch of subway cartoons.

I’ve written about this one before. It’s the first cartoon that I sold to The New Yorker.

Also, I wrote this piece for The New Yorker’s Daily Shouts about when people started taking the subway again after covid quarantine. It has wonderful illustrations from the great David Ostow.

I’ll be talking about all these cartoons and a lot of others at the talk, so please, grab a ticket and come see us! It’s going to be very funny and fun. Hope to see you there!

In the next newsletter: a new installment of ‘Origin of a Cartoon’. Until then, Bye!
